In the AUS, nearly every household owns at least one vacuum cleaner, particularly those with carpets or pets. The vacuum cleaner market is thriving, with high sales volumes recorded annually.

In recent years, every aspect of vacuum cleaners has seen qualitative improvements, evolving from large and bulky single-function machines to small, sleek, multi-functional devices. Additionally, a wide array of functional accessories has become increasingly available.

As of 2025, there are countless models available, making it difficult to choose the right one. Should you get a corded or cordless model? A robot-powered one? Should you get a special one for pet hair? What about allergies? And how much should you spend?

Over the past six months, we have conducted extensive tests on over 89 vacuum cleaners of different types and brands to determine the best vacuum cleaner of 2025.

Generally, vacuum cleaners are categorized into corded and cordless models, with our recommendation leaning towards handheld cordless vacuum cleaners.

You Should Look For

The suction power of a vacuum cleaner is crucial as it directly affects its cleaning performance and ability to capture particles such as dust and dirt. When purchasing a vacuum cleaner, you should look for a suction power of at least 10kPa to ensure it can effectively clean surfaces like carpets, sofas, and floors.

Many of the cordless vacuums we tested had difficulty manoeuvring around corners and angles due to their weight and awkward handling. However, the models that were easier to control completed our cleaning tests significantly faster.

A HEPA filter is a high-efficiency filter that traps tiny particles of dust and dirt, thereby improving indoor air quality and protecting family members’ health. While HEPA filters are generally not fully washable, some models can be cleaned with warm water and a low-pressure tap.

Most people don’t realise the benefits of extra accessories. Choosing the right brand can provide various brush heads and nozzles tailored to different cleaning needs (pet hair, hard floors, corners, mouldings, etc.), saving you from additional purchases.

Just like mobile phones, vacuum cleaners experience battery degradation over time. Thanks to technological advancements and excellent design, this decay can be minimised. A vacuum cleaner that maintains its suction power after prolonged use is a sign of good quality.
Surprisingly, many models have small dust containers, meaning the vacuum cleaner fills up quickly. During a thorough cleaning session, it’s inconvenient to have to empty the container frequently, so a larger container is definitely preferable.

What to Avoid

Despite advancements in cordless vacuum cleaners, many models still have a relatively high noise level. If you’re investing in a vacuum cleaner, it makes sense to choose one that isn’t louder than necessary.

A cordless vacuum cleaner should be lightweight for easy control and operation. If you have to exert a lot of effort each time you vacuum, cleaning becomes less effective (and you’ll risk tired arms).

Buying a model without various brushes and nozzles can lead to situations where your vacuum cleaner can’t handle tasks like picking up dog hair or gravel. It’s essential to have extra equipment to suit your specific needs.

Many believe that higher wattage means more efficiency. However, wattage measures how much energy the motor needs to create enough revolutions for suction. The best vacuum cleaners use as few watts as possible while providing optimal suction power.

Currently, the prices of cordless vacuum cleaners vary widely. Many models perform similarly, yet some are twice as expensive as others.

We also discovered that many cordless vacuum cleaners actually use the same components (e.g., motors, filters, etc.), yet there is a significant price difference due to the brand.

As an engineer, I couldn’t resist crunching the numbers and found that most models from major brands inflate their prices by up to 30% simply for the brand name.

However, we came across a vacuum cleaner from a Danish company that uses the same parts as well-known brands. This company focuses on delivering the best product at the best price, rather than charging a premium for the brand name.

We propose a standard concept for purchasing vacuum cleaners, called the Golden Triangle Standard: strong suction, no suction loss, and no secondary pollution.

Coming in second is a motor most people are familiar with: the V15. Known for their powerful motors, the V15 is no exception. It’s definitely a good vacuum cleaner, able to clean faster and more efficiently, handling all kinds of dirt.

However, we think it doesn’t offer the best value for money because we found some flaws.

Compared to SIXPAD, the V15 has only a 0.4-litre dustbin, meaning you have to empty it more frequently. Additionally, the suction power of the V15 is lower than that of SIXPAD. The V15 has only 28 kPa, while SIXPAD boasts 38 kPa. This means SIXPAD has stronger suction power and creates a cleaner environment.

Whether the price is due to the brand or technology is debatable, but we think you get more bang for your buck with SIXPAD.

Overall, the competition between the V15 and SIXPAD was fierce, but it’s clear that this time the V15 only managed to take second place.

In third place, we have the Complete C3.

This canister vacuum cleaner is manufactured and developed in Germany. Equipped with a powerful motor, it delivers an impressive 1200 watts of power, allowing it to extract dirt from carpets and crevices effectively. Despite its power, the motor operates relatively quietly. The Classic C3 features self-developed Vortex technology and multiple filtration systems, efficiently filtering tiny particles from the air and preventing secondary pollution.

However, one of the first things we noticed is the weight of the Classic C3! Weighing 21.8 pounds, 60 minutes of cleaning can quickly lead to arm and hand fatigue, as well as difficulties in maneuvering around corners. Priced at £442 , this model comes with only the most basic accessories.

The six different power modes allow you to control the suction strength through the filter. The device can clean upholstery and various other soft surfaces, such as padded furniture. The model comes with a full one-year warranty on the machine, and a separate seven-year warranty on the motor. However, the Classic C3 remains quite expensive.

In fourth place is the IZ862H.

This vacuum cleaner comes with a wide range of accessories and additional features, and its long battery life of 42 minutes makes it quite efficient in our cleaning tests. The Multiflex wand easily pivots to allow deep cleaning under furniture. This might seem unusual, but it works well.

On short-pile carpets, it performs exceptionally, with no mess around the rollers.

While the accessories are helpful for reaching all corners and cleaning surfaces, they do not justify the high price or the weight.

It was also one of the most expensive options, and as far as we can tell, it did not have a delayed shut-off system.

Lastly, it was quite noisy and slightly heavier than the other models we tested.

In fifth place is the Jet 90.

Weighing just 2.7 kg, it is light enough to handle stairs and move around the house with ease. Despite its lightweight design, it stands as a market leader with a suction power of 23 kPa. Thanks to its intelligent detection technology, the Jet 90 automatically adjusts suction strength according to the type of surface, making cleaning more efficient and convenient.

However, due to its powerful suction and motor, the Jet 90 can be relatively noisy during operation, which may occasionally disturb household members or neighbours.

If you place a high priority on battery life, we would not recommend this model.

Furthermore, our research shows that while it performs well with dust and crumbs, it struggles to keep carpets clean and to remove pet hair from sofas. This can cause tangling and wear on the brush itself. If you choose to use this model, you’ll need to clean the floor brush frequently or purchase extra brushes for future replacement.
